South Asian Heritage Month Exhibition
Stories To Tell

For South Asian Heritage Month 2023 we chose to celebrate members of the Ekta Project, a social group for South Asian older women, by sharing their personal life stories in an exhibition.

Along with our volunteers who we have trained in oral history, we conducted short interviews with 7 women in a workshop. Together with our volunteers, we then co-designed exhibition boards. The floral borders are digitally collaged from photographs of the garden at Trinity Community Centre, where Ekta Project meet fortnightly.

We displayed these at our launch event at Trinity Community Centre, where there was much joy, feasting, singing and dancing. Councillor Sarah Ruiz presented each woman who was interviewed with a framed print of her exhibition board.
